Osaka Festival of the Lights is a highlight of Osaka’s winter season. The annual festival lights up the city with festivities across the prefecture and illuminates Osaka once again in 2025.
One of the festival’s core programs, Midosuji Illumination, transforms Osaka’s main street into a stunning display of magical colors. It began early in April this year in connection with Expo Osaka, Kansai, and will continue through the end of the year. Stretching 4 km right through the city between Osaka Metro’s Umeda and Namba Stations, Midosuji Illumination is grand in scale and absolutely a must-see. The vibrant lights along Osaka’s main street are also perfect for your next Instagram shot.

Midosuji Illumination

Osaka Hikari Renaissance is the other core program of the Osaka Festival of the Lights. Beginning with a 3D projection mapping show on the façade of Osaka City Hall, the “Museum of Light” in the Nakanoshima area features a spectacular projection mapping on the historic Osaka City Central Public Hall, a 150-meter-long magical tunnel of light along Nakanoshima Illumination Street, and a Marché of Light where you can enjoy delicious food while immersing yourself in the enchanting world of lights.

Marché of Light

Two separate programs unfold in the Nakanoshima area.
In the west, along Osaka’s Fukushima-Hama Greenway, works created by children and local office workers come together as single art installation.
In the east, a promenade of light stretches along the waterside, with illuminations reflecting on the water to amplify the brightness. The tip of Nakanoshima Park is lit up in the shape of a ship, creating a dynamic display.

There’s something for everyone to enjoy, no matter the generation.

The Circus of Light: A Dazzling Fantasy Circus in the Night Sky

Namba Hikaritabi tour is the main winter illumination program in Osaka’s Minami area. The Waterfall of Light at Namba Parks extends from the 9th floor down to the 2nd floor of this large shopping mall. The 18-meter-long waterfall glows impressively in blue, and the view from nearby hotels and buildings is truly one of a kind! Christmas Market in Osaka Tenshiba 2025

Winter illuminations in the bay area are a can’t-miss experience!
